ü Before traveling, tell your doctor where you will be visiting and find out if there are any special precautions you should take, immunizations you may need, and copies of any prescriptions you are taking.
ü When flying, be sure to drink plenty of water, avoid caffeine and alcoholic beverages, eat minimally and sleep if possible.
ü When flying, don’t hesitate to get up and walk the aisle to stretch your legs and keep the circulation flowing.
ü Upon arrival at your destination, stay awake until local bedtime.
ü Choose wisely where you eat. Sanitation standards aren’t always as high in foreign countries as we are used to in the U.S. Be especially cautious of raw fruit and vegetables.
ü If in doubt, don’t drink the local water. In most places, bottled water is readily available, as is beer, wine, boiled coffee or tea, and bottled soft drinks. Don’t forget that ice cubes are made with local water, so skip drinks that need to be chilled. Use bottled water when brushing your teeth.
ü Travelers First-Aid Kit: Band-Aids, soap or medicated wipes, sunscreen, non-aspirin pain reliever, colds and diarrhea medications, prescribed medications, anti-itch cream, antacid tablets, moleskin for blisters, and, if needed, an extra pair of glasses.
ü If you take motion sickness medication, remember that it will most likely cause drowsiness so plan your day accordingly.
